Rabbi David Wolpe (l), Christopher Hitchens
An audience of nearly 700 filled the Seymour Union Ballroom
Audience members lineup to ask questions
Antitheist Christopher Hitchens and Rabbi David Wolpe tackled life’s big questions before an audience of nearly 700 in the Seymour Union Ballroom on Wednesday evening (Dec. 2).
Is there a supreme being who watches over us from birth and beyond? Is the world better or worse because of organized religions? The two made compelling and impassioned arguments for more than an hour before taking a few questions and signing copies of their books.
Hitchens is the author of God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything, and Wolpe wrote Why Faith Matters. The two first met more than a year ago for a similar exchange at the Temple Emanu-El in New York City, one of the world’s largest synagogues, in front of an audience of 1,500.
The event was sponsored and managed by the Brockport Student Government.
