Brockport, NY—Students, faculty and staff at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, are giving back to the community this holiday season through several initiatives, one of which is the first annual Holiday Giving Day, December 3, and the College's Annual Holiday Helping Hand campaign.

The Holiday Giving Day showcases local, national and international not-for-profit groups, which need assistance with clothing, food and monetary donations. Organizations benefitting from the event include: Ronald McDonald House, Save the Children, Birthright, Brockport Food Shelf, Brockport Toy Shelf, Newborns in Need, and many more. Organizers set up a “fair,” which is a one-stop-shop for individuals to drop off their items.

“We organized this event so people would know ahead of time what items were needed by charitable organizations. The community is inundated with so many opportunities to give, so we thought it would help to hold one large event where individuals could drop off all their donations,” said Jessica Muller, event organizer. “While not everyone has money to donate, most of us have some extra food we can spare from our cupboards.”

The 25th annual Holiday Helping Hand (HHH) Campaign also was recently in full gear. The College's moving crew gathered items donated by faculty, staff and students from collection points across campus and helped set up a gift-wrapping station in the Seymour College Union Ballroom.

Members of the HHH Committee then took on the monumental task of sorting the items in preparation for the celebratory Wrapping Party that took place Tuesday, December 8.

Campus volunteers donated their time to add the final touches of gift wrap and bows before Santa's elves (campus volunteers) loaded sleighs, cars and pick-up trucks to the brim with gift items and baskets of fresh groceries, and made the rounds to the 16 families with 24 adults and 46 children the campus adopted for this year’s HHH Campaign.
