College at Brockport Senior Presents Concert for Scholarships

Churchville- Chili High Graduate Uses Talent to Start Scholarship Fund for Fellow Students

Press Release Photo Aaron Murante

Brockport, NY—Aaron Murante, a senior at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, understands the challenges of financing a higher education. That’s why he has taken matters into his own hands to help fellow students by creating the Students for Tomorrow Scholarship. With help from the Brockport Foundation, Murante founded the independent Student for Tomorrow Scholarship, which is designed to help a freshman at the College at Brockport pay for books or other college needs. To help raise money for the scholarship, Murante, an accomplished pianist who has been studying piano since the age of five, will be performing a concert of classical ballads, with the goal of selling 80 tickets at $5 per ticket to reach a goal of at least $400. Murante also will be making a personal donation.

“Another reason why I am doing this concert is to motivate other college students here at Brockport or at any college to use their talents to help others who are in need. I know there are so many musically inclined students here at Brockport who are interested in creating concerts like this one.”

Murante’s concert will be held in the Seymour College Union Ballroom on Residence Drive at 5 pm on February 24. Tickets for the concert are on sale at the Brockport Student Government Box Office in the Seymour College Union. For more information, contact the BSG Office at (585) 395-2550.

Murante will be performing a number of his own original works, including Initiation, Busyness, Amour, Benevolence, Replenish, Clash, Clemency, and Final Say. He also will be performing classics, such as Music of the Night (Part I) from Phantom of the Opera, The Entertainer by Scott Joplin, and a free style piece in which Murante will invite audience participation.

Murante is a health science major with a minor in military science and has been an active member of the College’s ROTC. Currently a resident of Spencerport, NY, Murante is an employee of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Additionally, in his affinity for giving back to the community, Murante is a certified emergency medical technician and has served with a local volunteer emergency squad. For more information, contact Murante at (585) 705-1175.
