Brockport, NY — Students, faculty and staff from The College at Brockport, State University of New York, are “taking the plunge” to help raise money for the Special Olympics of New York. Several College at Brockport teams will participate in the 9th annual Rochester Polar Plunge on Sunday, February 14, 2010. Donations received through February 9 will be counted toward the local “Cool School Challenge,” and the college that raises the most money will win a free concert sponsored by WBEE-FM. In addition, residence halls that that raise the most money will win a party valued at $200.
Last year, Brockport raised more than $10,500 dollars and remains the number one school in the state for raising money for the Special Olympics. In 2009, after beating such schools as St. John Fisher and RIT, Brockport won the “Cool School Challenge.” In the last two years, College at Brockport students, faculty and staff have won concerts by recording artists Lady Antebellum and Jason Michael Carroll.
“This event really pulls the Brockport community together,” said Tiffany Collazo, graduate assistant for the Office of Campus Life. “Each year, the campus has come together and reached it goal.” This year, the College hopes to raise $12,500 for the Special Olympics. If you would like to make a donation to help support Brockport’s Polar Plunge teams and the Special Olympics, stop by the Polar Plunge Table in Seymour College Union until February 9. Students also may donate $2 in Dining Dollars at any BASC location on Tuesday, February 9 or donate online.
