LeChase to Build Brockport’s Special Events Recreation Center

The State University Construction Fund has chosen LeChase Construction Services, LLC, of Rochester to build The College at Brockport’s Special Events Recreation Center (SERC), a state-of-the-art multiuse facility for academics, concerts, recreational and sporting events, commencements and community activities. Groundbreaking for the $39 million project is scheduled to take place at 1 p.m. on April 16, 2010, with the project completed by late summer 2012.

“Early in my presidency I identified the SERC as the College’s number one capital project, so I am very pleased that we have taken another step closer to opening what will be a state-of-the-art multipurpose facility for our students, the College, and the community. It will enhance the academic, recreational, fitness and sports offerings for our students while providing a first-class venue for a wide range of events for the region and be an economic driver in western New York,” said College President John R. Halstead, PhD.

The 156,000 sq. ft. facility was designed by King & King Architects of Syracuse, NY, and will include seating for 5,500, an indoor track, fitness center, multi-purpose room and a throwing cage for shot put and discus use. Gilbane Building Co., of Albany, N.Y., will be the construction manager.

"LeChase is very excited about the start of this project - the new special events center will be a great addition to the growing campus,” said Kyle Sayers, vice president at LeChase. “We have been working on the Brockport campus for many years and are so pleased to be a part of expanding the facilities that will serve and enhance the education of our next generation."

“King + King Architects is proud to be an integral part of the project team for the new Special Events Recreation Center,” said Kirk Narburgh, partner at King + King. “We are excited for the Brockport community and the tremendous benefits that this new facility will provide. The award of the construction contract brings the vision for this center one step closer to reality.”

“Gilbane is pleased and honored to work on the new Special Events Recreation Center project for the State University Construction Fund and the College at Brockport,” said Sean S. Cahill, senior project executive at Gilbane Building Co. “We look forward to assisting LeChase Construction, King and King Architects, the College at Brockport and the State University Construction Fund in the construction of this magnificent new facility that will foster campus community and pride by providing a new, bright, state-of-the-art, and sustainable structure to the campus.”

SERC will meet “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)” certified silver building standards.
