Brockport, NY – More than 90 alumni and friends of The College at Brockport, State University of New York, launched the College’s new Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD) Program December 6, 2012. The event was held simultaneously from 7 to 9 pm in Albany, Buffalo, New York, Rochester and Syracuse, NY as well as Washington, DC.
The GOLD Program was started to bring all of Brockport’s recent graduates together to network, socialize, give back, and above all maintain a connection to the College. At the event, the group also held a kickoff for the $50,000 Gold Challenge. Ten members of the GOLD Leadership Board pledged $2,500 each to the challenge, which they will contribute when the rest of the GOLD alumni collectively contribute $25,000 to The College at Brockport. The money will be used to support students and programs at the College. Visit the Brockport Alumni Association’s Tumblr page to see photos and videos from the festivities.
“What a great way to officially kick-off our GOLD program,” said Kerry Gotham, director of Alumni Relations. “The excitement and momentum created from the launch events will help us to build an engaged group of recent alumni to help keep the GOLD group connected with each other and the College… while also having some fun!”
Jamie Caldwell ’07 attended the Syracuse event. “It's hard to connect with college friends once you've graduated, and this program will give all of us a reason to get together and to stay involved with Brockport. I'm excited to be a part of it.”
“If the enthusiasm of the Buffalo contingent at the launch event is any indication of the future of the GOLD group and the GOLD Challenge, great things are coming for Brockport's alumni community," said Kevin Bates ’10, 2012 – 2013 GOLD Leadership Board Co-chair.
"The GOLD Program launch event was a success in Rochester. It was a great opportunity for alumni to catch up, and an even better opportunity for them to really appreciate the value of a Brockport education. Hopefully attendees walked away with the same sense of appreciation for the College, and that appreciation will be reflected in increased GOLD Challenge participation, said Karen Webber ’09/’10, 2012 – 2013 GOLD Leadership Board Co-chair.
