BROCKPORT, NY—The College at Brockport, State University of New York, has been awarded the Outstanding Sports Facilities award by the National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA). The award recognizes the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) for its innovative and exceptional recreational facilities.
The award ceremony was held during the NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo on March 7, 2013 in Las Vegas, NV. Director of Campus Recreation Scott Haines and the Coordinator for Intramurals and Club Sport Damian Flint put together the application and will be on hand to accept the award on behalf of the College at Brockport at the national Conference. The NIRSA Outstanding Sports Facilities Awards recognize the innovative designs of new, renovated, or expanded collegiate recreational facilities of NIRSA Member Institutions. Presented each year at the NIRSA Annual Conference & Recreational Sports Expo, the award honors facilities that demonstrate excellence in a number of critical areas, including architectural design, functionality, and how well the facility meets its intended purpose. Recipients exemplify the institution's commitment to providing the higher education experience desired and valued by students.
Recipient institutions receive a plaque commemorating their achievement; designated architects and consulting firms are honored with a certificate; and winning facilities are prominently displayed on the NIRSA website. Winning facilities are considered a standard by which other collegiate recreational facilities should be measured, and from which others can benefit.
The SERC was entered in to the running for the award on November 1, 2012 through a rigorous application process, which included a breakdown of all the features of the facility, architecture and construction information, and a webpage that demonstrates the remarkable elements of the center. The webpage also highlighted the architectural accomplishments of King + King Architects and Moody Nolan, the architectural team behind the SERC, including the buildings environmental sustainability and cost efficient heating and cooling.
The National Intramural-Recreation Association [NIRSA] is a nationally recognized organization that supports collegiate sports programs and its facilities. As a recipient of the Outstanding Sports Facilities award, The College at Brockport will be featured on the NIRSA website among the top sports and recreation establishments in the country.
