BROCKPORT, NY—The College at Brockport, State Unversity of New York’s MetroCenter Library has been selected as the 2013 Rochester Regional Library Council Academic Library of the Year.
The Rochester Regional Library Council received more than 1,000 nominations from library users across the region, each stating why they loved their respective libraries. The panel of judges was impressed that those nominating the MetroCenter library often referred to individual librarians by name—something the judges say is rare in an academic setting.
The MetroCenter Library received a $100 gift card, an engraved plaque, and a six-foot banner in recognition of the honor.
“The Rochester Regional Library Council knows that libraries are anchors in our communities—whether our ‘community’ is a school, a college, or a town,” Rochester Regional Library Council Executive Director Kathleen Miller said in a letter notifying the library of its award. “The MetroCenter Library and its staff are cherished by its community. You are a model for all libraries.”
Linda Hacker, associate librarian at the MetroCenter, said the library is thrilled by the honor and that it serves as validation of its efforts.
“Winning the award conveys to the College community that the library services at the MetroCenter are of the highest quality,” Hacker says. “Brockport’s students and faculty should feel very comfortable coming downtown to the MetroCenter campus knowing that they will encounter a warm, inviting atmosphere and receive exceptional services.”
