BROCKPORT, NY—The College at Brockport, State University of New York, had a chance to show off its campus and its new Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) to area school districts June 25-26. Brockport hosted the annual Genesee Valley School Boards Institute’s Annual School Facilities Personnel Training Conference.
The event drew representatives from the facilities departments of public school districts from all over the region. Brockport is the lone college or university to participate in Genesee Valley School Boards Institute programming.
Brockport Supervising Janitor Larry Brien serves on the institute’s committee and was instrumental in bringing the conference to Brockport.
“The conference provides a great training opportunity for our team and for everyone else in the region—something that us in facilities don’t often get to take advantage of,” Brien says.
The conference featured a number of training sessions on a wide-range of topics. Brockport Central School District Superintendent Lesli C. Myers, PhD, served as the keynote speaker. And the event concluded with a fun skills competition that served as a team-building event, allowing the representatives from various schools to compete against each other.
