BROCKPORT, NY—Volunteers from The College at Brockport, State University of New York, joined community members in participating in International Coastal Cleanup Day on Sept. 14. While the rest of the world will celebrate the day next Saturday, Brockport participated a week early to avoid a conflict with its Homecoming Weekend.
More than 80 volunteers worked together to remove 320 pounds of trash from approximately 1.5 miles of Lake Ontario shoreline.
“We live in the backyard of the most important natural resource: our Great Lakes,” says Hilary Mosher, who oversees Brockport’s involvement in the program. “Debris and litter make up no small amount of pollution within this watershed. This community event brings together members from the campus and local communities to work together to enhance the health of this water body.”
