BROCKPORT, NY—80 people realized their dreams of becoming an American citizen at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, Sept. 17. Brockport continued its tradition of hosting a naturalization ceremony to celebrate the anniversary of the United States Constitution, as part of the College’s American Democracy Project initiative.
“Perhaps there’s no better way to be reminded of how much our citizenship is valued than to witness this ceremony where all of you will voluntarily take the Oath of Allegiance to the United States to become American citizens,” Brockport President John R. Halstead, PhD, said as he welcomed the audience.
And the audience included Brockport student Vanessa Namba, a senior international business management who was naturalized.
“I’m feeling good. I just feel like it’s my day. I’m happy,” said Namba. “I love America.”
The Honorable Jonathan W. Feldman presided over the ceremony.
