BROCKPORT, NY— The College at Brockport, State University of New York, facilitated the International Guild of Musicians in Dance conference through its Department of Dance and the SUNY Center for International Development program Oct. 10-13.
The International Guild of Musicians in Dance is a professional organization for dance musicians and was founded at the College over two decades ago. A dance musician is a specialized artist that creates music for the purpose of applying it to dance choreography. Their conference titled Digital Transformations in Music for Dance: International Dialogues included faculty throughout the SUNY system and visiting scholars from other institutions around the country.
Conference sessions were devoted to various lectures, presentations and performances detailing the impact that digital innovations in sound generation and the Internet have on the collaboration of music and dance. The resulting program was one that brought students and faculty of various art disciplines to a better understanding of the changes affecting the field.
