BROCKPORT, NY—The College at Brockport’s student-run radio station, 89.1 “The Point” WBSU-FM, unveiled a new production studio during a ribbon cutting ceremony Dec. 3.
The new multi-talent studio provides students with the opportunity to work together on production tasks. The facility, along with the station’s existing single-person studio, allows for students to produce its pre-recorded content—including public service announcements, station promotions, underwriting announcement and voice tracking.
The renovation cost $26,000 and completes the third stage of a four-part studio renovation project that began in 2008. The upgrades could enable the station to eventually transition to a high definition broadcast. The highlight of this latest upgrade is a Wheatstone digital console that Station Manager and Brockport Department of Communication faculty member Warren Kozireski calls “the best brand you can buy.”
The opportunity to work with such equipment, Kozireski says, is invaluable for students.
“The training and the experience students get working on top-of-the-line equipment—that’s the biggest thing,” Kozireski said. “When they go from here into a professional operation, there are no surprises. They’ve already used their equipment.”
Students are anxious to put the new equipment to work.
“I’ve been waiting over a year for this,” said senior Matt Winthrop, The Point’s operations manager prior to the ribbon cutting ceremony. “It feels like Christmas came early.”
