Brockport, NY – On Thursday, February 6, 2014, the Program Committee of the Memorial Art Gallery Council is hosting a program with Clyde Morgan, dancer, teacher, musician, painter and a true Renaissance man. Morgan’s speech is entitled “My Artistic Vision: The Spirit of Kuumba (Creativity).” The program begins at 4 pm in the Auditorium of the Memorial Art Gallery, 500 University Avenue, Rochester. The event is free and open to the public, but reservations must be made. Please RSVP by Monday, February 3, to firstname.lastname@example.org or call Sharon McNamee at 585-276-8910 to secure a place. Morgan, associate professor of dance at The College at Brockport, is an internationally recognized dancer and teacher of dance. A former Fulbright Professor, he has danced and taught in East and West Africa, Brazil, Haiti and in the US. In 1993, he was selected “Artist of the Year” by Young Audiences, Inc. He is also a well-known musician and the artistic director of Sankofa African Dance and Drum Ensemble at the College.
Not content with dance and music successes, Morgan is also a prominent artist whose big, bold, colorful paintings were featured in a show at the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester and in its magazine, Metropolitan. He will be displaying some of his works at the event, and will speak about his inspirations.
Coffee will be served prior to the program, and Max at the Gallery will be open for tapas after the program.
