BROCKPORT, N.Y.— Student-athletes and librarians from The College at Brockport, State University of New York will team to encourage Rochester elementary students to read on Feb. 14. Student-athletes will read to children at Theodore Roosevelt School No. 43 as part of the Rochester Giant Read program, which is designed to promote literacy to elementary students.
Forty student-athletes are scheduled to participate in the event, which begins at 9:45 am at School No. 43. The Brockport contingent will aim to build connections with the students and encourage them to read.
The Brockport student-athletes will each read a story about sportsmanship and fair play to a group of second grade students. Following the story, the athletes will play games with the students that promote good sportsmanship. Ellsworth, Brockport’s mascot will also accompany the group.
Brockport has participated in the Giant Read event each year since 2010.
