Brockport, NY – The College at Brockport's nationally recognized Department of Dance presents DANCE/Strasser beginning February 27, 2014, at 7:30 pm. The dance performances present a variety of new modern and contemporary dance works by graduate students and undergraduate dance majors, showcasing why the dance department is one of four “programs of distinction” at The College at Brockport. The concerts take place Thursday, February 27, through Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 7:30 pm, with an additional matinee performance on Saturday, March 1, at 2 pm. The performances are in the Rose L. Strasser Performance Studio in Hartwell Hall, Kenyon Street, on the Brockport campus. Tickets are $16/General, $11/Seniors, Alumni, Faculty and Staff, and $8.50/Students. They are available online at fineartstix.brockport.edu, by phone at (585) 395-2787, or at the Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office, 180 Holley Street, Brockport.
This spring’s Strasser concert presents visually enticing undergraduate and graduate choreography ranging from a riveting female solo to choreography that dares to exploit compositional forms. A witty and slightly flirtatious tap trio, “I Never Took You for a _______” by senior Florianne Jalac opens the evening. The concert also includes MFA graduate thesis choreography from Amy Sullivan (“Living Rooms”) and Adrian Safar (“çkwə-nĭm’i-tç”), representing their final creative projects. Senior Brett Cox, who has appeared in the Rochester Fringe Festival since its inception, brings the evening to a close with his compelling female octet, “Odds.”
The showings on Thursday and Saturday evenings will be immediately followed by discussion panels that feature some of the concert’s choreographers.
Any available tickets will also be available at the Box Office in Hartwell Hall one hour prior to each performance.
