Brockport, NY — The Department of Dance at The College at Brockport will present DANCE/Hartwell, its semi-annual concert of student choreography, on Thursday – Saturday, April 3 – 5, 2014, at 7:30 pm in Hartwell Dance Theater, Kenyon Street, Brockport. Tickets are $16/General, $11/Seniors, Alumni, Faculty and Staff, and $8.50/Students. They are available online at fineartstix.brockport.edu, by phone at (585) 395-2787, or at the Tower Fine Arts Center Box Office, 180 Holley Street, Brockport.
The concert’s artistic director, visiting assistant professor Stevie Oakes, is enthusiastic about this spring’s concert: “I am excited that this concert represents the diverse choreographic options available in contemporary modern dance. As we adjudicated these concerts, we looked specifically for full investment by the choreographer in a particular movement practice or point-of-view. We feel that we have captured these kinds of pieces for the concert. The program includes everything from solo to group work, extroverted to ‘internal landscape’ presentations, and conceptual to aesthetically-inspired work.” The concert features new costumes and lighting design by students from the department, created under the mentorship of Emma Scholl and Benoit Beauchamp.
Among the work presented will be MFA thesis choreography by Yang Wang titled “Time Line, Space Point,” and excerpts from Caitlin Mahon’s senior honors project titled “All for One, and None for All.” Wang’s work investigates internal movement motivation inspired by underwater landscapes. Mahon’s work in contrast is politically driven, exploring a movement language evolving from a theoretical study of popular sovereignty. Twelve other undergraduate and graduate student works round out the program.
Any available tickets will also be available at the Box Office in Hartwell Hall one hour prior to each performance.
