BROCKPORT, NY—The Exercise Science Major at the College at Brockport, State University of New York, has become the first program of its kind to be accredited in New York State. The program is only one of 40 in the nation that has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
The Committee on Accreditation for the Exercise Sciences and Brockport worked together to complete an extensive accreditation process. The accreditation process involved extensive self-study and documentation, as well as curriculum analysis. More than 200 areas of criteria were documented in the process, including faculty, facilities and internship opportunities.
“Acquisition of CAAHEP accreditation provides students and families assurance in knowing that our curriculum, faculty, and facilities have met rigorous standards established by independent experts in the area of allied health education.” Exercise Science Program Coordinator Craig Mattern, PhD, said. “A bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from the College at Brockport optimally prepares students for employment and/or graduate work in a wide array of allied health disciplines.”
CAAHEP is a nonprofit organization formed by committees seeking to generate a higher level of health science education. CAAHEP currently accredits educational programs in 23 different health care professions.
