BROCKPORT, NY-Alumni from across the country gathered at The College at Brockport, State University of New York, to reunite and reminisce May 29 through June 1. A full slate of activities helped the Classes of 1964, 1969, 1974, 1989, and 2004 and others celebrate during the College's Reunion Weekend.
The weekend, which saw more than 450 alumni and friends return to campus, was a tremendous success.
"We had alumni from the past 8 decades come back to celebrate and although the College has changed throughout those years, the one constant is the strong bond that the alums hold for their alma mater and the power of those friendships, new and old alike, that have stood the test of time," said Kerry Gotham, Brockport's Director of Alumni Relations.
Festivities kicked off with the Bob Boozer Golden Eagle Open on Thursday and continued throughout the weekend. On Friday, the College's 50th anniversary class came together with its most recent graduating class to continue a longstanding Brockport tradition by planting two trees on Alumni Walk.
"It's a great tradition," said Brockport President John R. Halstead, PhD. "The Golden Class of 1964 and recent grads of 2014 continue to leave their legacy on campus."
Sandi Forno Eichorn '64 came back for her 50th reunion and helped plant her class tree, but she hasn't been a stranger to Brockport since graduation. "We were here for our 30th and 40th reunions as well," Eichorn said. "My husband and I met here and we've been married 49 years. Brockport is a special place to us."
Alyssa Mitchell '14 has noticed the trees during her time at Brockport. "I always walked through Alumni Walk and now knowing there's a little piece of me here means a lot," Mitchell said.
The weekend culminated with the annual Alumni Awards Ceremony and Reunion Dinner on Saturday evening. Eight Brockport alumni were honored during the celebration and each have a unique, yet powerful Brockport story to share.
Joey Jackson '88, Kay D. VanNostrand '64, and Racheal Wood '05 were inducted into the Hall of Heritage, the Brockport Alumni Association's most prestigious honor.
