Brockport, NY – SUNY Brockport’s production of Marat/Sade has been awarded three prestigious Theatre Association of New York State (TANYS) merit awards.
Adjudicator Ruth Legg, former chairperson of the Theatre and Communications Department at Finger Lakes Community College and the current president of TANYS, said, “The students and faculty in the theatre department at SUNY Brockport provided the audience with a total theatrical experience that was exciting, thought provoking, and, at times, almost overwhelming. The dedication and commitment to this production of Marat/Sade clearly demonstrates the professional level of theatre at Brockport."
Outstanding Accomplishment in Directing to faculty member Michael C. Krickmire
Outstanding Accomplishment in Ensemble Work to the entire student cast, with special kudos to Adam Lieberman, Delroy James, Lindsay Shields, Heather Lee, Cassie Buckley, Jeremy Hewitt and Brad Holzer Outstanding Accomplishment in Technical Support to faculty members P. Gibson Ralph (scenic design), Gail Argetsinger (costume design), Gary Musante (lighting design), Carol Brown (music direction) and students Chelsea Leach (production stage manager) and Melissa Leahy (make-up and masks). There are three separate categories of Merit Awards:
• Outstanding - To be issued to the whole or part of the whole of a theatrical event or production of a superlative quality rarely witnessed or experienced by the adjudicator.
• Excellence - To be issued to the whole or part of the whole of a theatrical event or production considered by the adjudicator to be of exceptional merit surpassing the norm.
• Meritorious Achievement - To be issued to the whole or part of the whole of a theatrical event or production considered by the adjudicator to be worthy of special recognition.
The 2006 TANYS Festival will be November 18, 19, and 20 at the Charles S. Woods Theatre in Glens Falls. Formal presentations of these awards will be held on Saturday, November 19th, during the TANYS Festival Awards Banquet at the Queensbury Hotel in Glens Falls.
TANYS, which represents non-professional theatre in the state, offers an educational adjudication program to help members evaluate and enhance their work. Trained adjudicators view productions and then discuss the show with the cast and crew. TANYS adjudicators give awards to recognize exceptional work by community and educational theatre companies, actors and technicians across New York state.
