SUNY Brockport Leaps in US News Rankings

Listed in The Princeton Review’s “Best Colleges in the Northeast” and “America’s Best Value Colleges”

Brockport, NY – SUNY College at Brockport ranked 79th among master’s universities in the Northern region in the just-released US News & World Report “America’s Best Colleges” guide.

“SUNY Brockport's entry into US News & World Report's list represents a welcome national recognition of the College's quality. Brockport's steep rise through the US News ranking in recent years reflects our strong commitment to continuous improvement and to student success," said P. Michael Fox, SUNY Brockport interim provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The US News staff ranks colleges based on the academic profile of incoming students, graduation rates, percentage of alumni who donate to their alma maters and the school’s reputation among peers.

Since 1998, scores for incoming students have demonstrated a steady rise… the average high school GPA has gone from 85.2 to 90.6, the average SAT composite score increased from 1025 to 1113, the percentage of students in SUNY’s top Tier 1 and 2 ranking grew from 30.6 percent to 79.3 percent.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle noted that SUNY Brockport made, “… a notable move for a school that last year had been in the unranked third tier of Northern master’s universities.”

"It is great to see the recognition SUNY Brockport is receiving for its outstanding quality and value. The College's increased selectivity and commitment to student success has played an important role in its reputation as an outstanding college," said Bernard S. Valento, SUNY Brockport director of undergraduate admissions.

The 2006 freshman class of approximately 1,015 regular admitted students has an average high school GPA of 90.6 and 1113 SAT scores. The class also includes 23 students who ranked either first or second in their high school class.

The Princeton Review listed SUNY Brockport in its 2006 edition of "America’s Best Value Colleges" and "Best Colleges in the Northeast." In "America’s Best Value Colleges," SUNY Brockport was included among 61 colleges in New York state and 224 colleges in the Northeast listed in the publication. The College was among 222 schools featured in "Best Colleges in the Northeast." Princeton Review is publisher of college guides.
