Course Challenge Guidelines
The following courses may be challenged be challenged with faculty advisement:
Nur. 321 - Pharmacology The candidate must initially:
- Be an RN.
- Review the NUR 321 module as necessary (either borrow from a student who has taken the course recently, buy at the bookstore or, if out of stock in bookstore, contact the department secretary about buying one from her).
- Contact the Department of Nursing secretary at (585) 395-2355, before the beginning of the spring semester. She will make an appointment for the student to take the multiple-choice challenge exam which must be passed with a grade of 90 percent or higher.
- Be an RN.
- Review the NUR. 331 module as necessary (same ways as above).
- Prepare a videotape of a physical assessment. This assessment must be done in a professional and thorough manner and cover all of the elements referred to in the course module. A copy of the evaluation tool that will be used to judge the videotape is in the module.
- Submit a write-up of the findings of the physical assessment.
- Video and writeup must be submitted to RN Program coordinator or course coordinator.
The above data will be reviewed by the faculty specializing in critical care and, if approved by them, the candidate can then proceed with the challenge process. To successfully challenge NUR 442 and NUR 443, the candidate must:
- Review the NUR 442 and 443 modules (available in the bookstore) as necessary.
- Successfully pass a written exam with an average grade of 70 percent. Only one opportunity will be provided to successfully complete this exam. The exam is comprised of 180 multiple-choice questions, one essay question from reference in module, and one short-answer question.
OR
- Hold current CCRN certification.
OR
- Have successfully completed the CCNEI at Rochester General Hospital.
