Linda H. Snell, DNS, WHNP-C

 Dr. Snell was appointed Chairperson of the Department of Nursing in Fall 2004. She came to Brockport in 2001, having previously taught nursing at D'Youville College and SUNY Buffalo.

A nationally certified women's health nurse practitioner, Dr. Snell graduated from Roberts Wesleyan College with a BS in nursing and earned MS and DNS degrees in women's health nursing from SUNY Buffalo. She has over 15 years of clinical experience as a nurse practitioner and is an active member of a number of professional nursing organizations, including the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, & Neonatal Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau, and the American Nurses Association.

Dr. Snell's research interests include the health care of women with disabilities, patient safety, nurse practitioner issues, and efforts to improve nursing education. She has done multiple presentations and publications on these topics.

Dr. Snell and her D’Youville colleague Karen Piotrowski, MS, RNC, presented podium presentations on the health needs of women with disabilities at the NPACE New England Regional Women’s Health and Older Adult Conference at North Falmouth, MA in June 2006 and the 5th Annual Northeastern U.S. Conference on disability in Scranton, PA in October 2006.  Dr. Snell and Ms. Piotrowski published an article in the January/February Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing entitled “Health Care Needs of Women with Disabilities.”  Dr. Snell also collaborated with nursing colleagues Pamela Miller and Elizabeth Caruso in presenting a poster entitled “Contraceptive Knowledge of Male and Female College Students attending a College Health Center” in Hilton Head, SC at the 14th Congress on Women’s Health Care, June 2006.

Dr. Snell and her husband, Alden, live in Clarence. Their son Alden, and his wife Christin, teach music in the greater Rochester area. Their son Christopher is an actuary in New York City.
