POLICY AND PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING STUDENT COMPLAINTS AND COMPLAINTS OF DISCRIMINATION
POLICY: The Department of Nursing has zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind. If a student has a concern the following procedure should be followed:
PROCEDURE:
- A faculty member who receives a complaint from a student about another faculty member should encourage that student to first speak directly with the person concerned, in an effort to resolve differences and feelings.
- If the student’s concerns persist, faculty members should direct students to speak with the chairperson of the nursing department.
- The chairperson of the nursing department will discuss the situation with the student and attempt to affect a resolution.
- If the student complaint is regarding discrimination of any kind the student should be referred directly to the chairperson of the department of nursing.
- The chairperson will inform the student of the discrimination complaint procedures in effect on the campus.
- If the complaint is against the chairperson the student should be referred directly to the dean for general complaints and to the Affirmative Action Director for complaints about discrimination.
