HIPAA Compliance Policy

1. All employees in the Department of Nursing will sign the workforce confidentiality agreement.
2. All students will receive a Notice of Information Practices, Uses and Disclosures of Health Information. Students will sign an acknowledgement of receipt of this notice during orientation to the program.
3. Students or their health care providers mail a health form to the nursing department. Mail is opened by the department secretary. Student health information will be kept in a small file cabinet behind the desk of the department secretary. Only department faculty and secretary have access to this cabinet.
4. Student health information will be kept for one year after student’s graduation. It will then be shredded by the department secretary.
