SUNY Brockport's Department of Physical Education and Sport offers nationally recognized studies in physical activity and sport. The department has an outstanding faculty, a strong and innovative major curriculum and a variety of career
concentrations. Within the nurturing learning community, students come to understand performance and they grow to be well-informed coaches, teachers, administrators and supervisors in a wide range of career fields.
Facilities
The facilities to support physical activity studies at Brockport are terrific. The 261,000-square-foot Tuttle Athletic Complex contains a 50-meter pool, six gymnasia, a large multipurpose room, an ice hockey rink, a large gymnastics facility, racquetball courts, a wrestling room, classrooms, laboratories (including exercise physiology, biomechanics, and athletic training), and two modern weight-training/fitness venues.
The outdoor facilities are equally impressive and include Special Olympics Stadium (a 9,500-seat area used for football and track and field), and well-maintained fields for softball, baseball, soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse. An adventure-based ropes course can also be found outdoors on campus.
Career Opportunities
A variety of careers are open to students who major in physical education and/or elect concentrations in physical education. Recent SUNY Brockport graduates hold a variety of positions including, but not limited to, physical education teacher, coach, sports information director, exercise physiologist, sport psychologist, athletic trainer, personal trainer, athletic director, college/university faculty member, fitness director, chairperson of a physical education department, general manager of a professional sport team, recreation director, and physical therapist.
