The Kinesiology major and all the concentrations are accredited by Middle States and are approved programs by the NYS Department of Education. In addition, the Teacher Certification concentration is accredited by NCATE and the Athletic Training concentration is accredited by CAATE. The Athletic Administration track is intended for prospective athletic administrators at the interscholastic or intercollegiate levels. This particular track is a great option for both those seeking to secure professional teaching certification in physical education as well as those seeking to work at the collegiate / university level without teaching certification. Although some institutions may require further course work in the field, this track is highly suggested and a strong foundation for those wishing to pursue a career in athletics and or administration.
The successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Education through the Athletic Administration track will satisfy the Master’s Degree Requirement for those holding initial certification in Physical Education.
All students interested in pursuing athletic administration (those with and those without teacher certification in physical education) should contact / consult with Dr. Cathy Houston-Wilson (information provided below) prior to applying for admission.
The Athletic Administration graduate track is designed to help prepare future athletic administrators within school-based organizations such as public secondary schools, junior/community colleges, colleges, and universities. The track involves the entire spectrum of management of school-related sports programs including, but not limited to, preparation of athletic directors, assistant or associate athletic directors, sports information directors, as well as sports promoters and fundraisers. The scope includes six credits of core requirements in research and specific courses in athletic administration. A sample listing of courses is provided below.
