The Kinesiology major and all the concentrations are accredited by Middle States and are approved programs by the NYS Department of Education. In addition, the Teacher Certification concentration is accredited by NCATE and the Athletic Training concentration is accredited by CAATE. The goal of The College at Brockport innovative physical education and sport academic major is to graduate students who are "physically educated." The Physical
Education at The College at Brockport is constructed on the dual pillars of motor skill and physical fitness. Students learn the principles of acquiring skill and fitness, seek to improve their own levels of skill and fitness, and learn to appreciate the contributions skill and fitness bring to human development.
The The College at Brockport's Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies, and Physical Education supports five professional Concentrations:
At The College at Brockport, you find exceptional Faculty & Award-winning scholars. The physical education and sport faculty count among its ranks more than 20 full-time instructors, many of whom are nationally and internationally recognized as experts in their field, 90% of whom hold doctoral degrees. The Department also includes 11 full-time staff members with academic rank (instructor/assistant/associate/professor) or professional qualifications. All faculty belong to one or multiple professional associations including but limited to - American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, National Athletic Training Association and many others.
In terms of facilities, the Tuttle Athletic Complex houses six gymnasia, exercise physiology and biomechanics laboratory, a large multipurpose room, an ice arena, handball/racquetball courts, a wrestling room, a gymnastics venue, two fitness facilities, a 50-meter swimming pool, an athletic training room, classrooms, and faculty offices. The external facilities are also impressive, with a Project Adventure ropes course; manicured softball and baseball diamonds; playing fields for football, field hockey, soccer and lacrosse; and green spaces that support many other games and activities, as well as lighted tennis courts.
