Adapted Physical Education
|
Here are some highlights of the adapted physical education concentration: We currently have three programs running on campus:
Dr. Joseph P. Winnick recently published the 4 th edition of Adapted Physical Education and Sport. Dr. Cathy Houston-Wilson, Dr. Doug Collier, Dr. Francis X. Short and Dr. Lauren Lieberman from SUNY Brockport all contributed chapters to the book published through Human Kinetics. Dr. Doug Collier will receive the Amazing Person Award from the New York State Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance for his contributions at the state level in adapted physical education. Lastly, Loretta Claiborne came to Brockport as a guest speaker on September 28. Ms. Claiborne has run 26 marathons, holds the record for women in the Special Olympics mile run, won an ESPY Award in 1996 for her courage, and was the inspiration for a Disney movie called The Loretta Claiborne Story . Claiborne has achieved so much in her life despite an intellectual disability, a visual impairment, and growing up in a single parent family with seven children in an inner city in Pennsylvania. |
