Sport management students learn a foundation of sport management principles through energetic classroom experiences followed by experiential learning in the form of practica and internships that take place at sport organizations. Faculty draw from personal research and past professional experiences as they incorporate cutting edge sport management knowledge and teaching methods into the classroom. Past employment experiences in such areas as directing athletics, managing sport businesses and coaching enable faculty to provide our students with practical knowledge and the skills necessary to realize their goals as professionals in the sport world.
The culminating event of the sport management program is a semester long full-time internship experience that provides the student with a transition from courses to real world employment in the sport industry. Popular internships include professional, intercollegiate, interscholastic, Olympic and YMCA work experiences.
With one of the first sport management programs in the country, SUNY Brockport graduates have established a firm network of professional contacts over the years. These contacts have served the program well as new graduates seek the many employment opportunities that exist in sport management.
