About the Athletic Training Concentration |

Athletic Training is an allied health profession dealing with the prevention, recognition, management, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries. The Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) is a highly qualified health-care professional educated and skilled in the art and science of athletic health care. ATCs typically work in a variety of settings, including colleges and universities, professional teams, high schools, and sports medicine clinics. The ATC has become a vital part of the sports medicine team and is widely recognized as a health-care professional. The undergraduate Athletic Training Concentration at SUNY Brockport is accredited through the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Trainig Education (CAATE). Graduates are also eligible for licensure in New York as a Certified Athletic Trainer. The Athletic Training Concentration is within the Department of Physical Education and Sport and is open to any major, although physical education is the most common choice among students. The concentration is carefully designed to fulfill competencies and clinical proficiencies identified by* CAATE and prepares students to successfully complete the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. The Athletic Training Concentration at Brockport is supervised by four Certified Athletic Trainers all of whom have teaching and clinical responsibilities. |
