Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education (KSSPE)
Letter to Prospective Students
Thank you for your interest in the Athletic Training Education Program at The College at Brockport. This program has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) since 1999. The Athletic Training Program is a major within the Department of Physical Education and Sport.
Graduates from the Athletic Training Program at Brockport are currently working in many different settings across the country including colleges and universities, professional sport teams, high schools, sports medicine clinics, and many others. In a typical graduating class, approximately 75% of the graduating students attend graduate school while approximately 25% pursue employment in the field. During the last five years The College at Brockport students have performed very well on the BOC Certification Exam.
Students may apply to the Professional Portion of the Athletic Training Major beginning in the fall semester of their sophomore year. The concentration involves both academic coursework and five semesters of clinical experience.. The program is governed by guidelines that incorporate a student/certified athletic trainer ratio, and therefore limits the number of students that may be admitted into the program. As a result, admission to the program is selective.
Students who are formally accepted into the Professional Portion of the Athletic Training Major and successfully complete the program are eligible to take the Board of Certification Examination. For additional information regarding the Athletic Training Major please contact Dr. Tim Henry at (585)-395-5357 or by e-mail: thenry@brockport.edu.
Sincerely,
Timothy J. Henry, PhD, ATC
Director, Athletic Training Program
