Coaching Minor

The coaching minor is available to all students at The Collage at Brockport. This concentration enables students to meet and exceed the minimal requirements to become certified to coach a sport in New York public schools. The concentration contains both traditional classroom experiences and a culminating internship experience.

The regulations of the Commissioner of Education of the New York State Department of Education require individuals who coach an interscholastic athletic team to complete an approved program for coaches prior to or within the first three years of their employment. Initial employment requires:

  • a valid First Aid Certificate
  • a valid CPR Certificate
  • the completion of an approved child abuse workshop/class

The College at Brockport's coaching concentration fulfills this requirement and also provides greater depth in preparation for prospective coaches in schools, sports clubs, community programs, colleges, or other athletic organizations
