The Kinesiology major and all the concentrations are accredited by Middle States and are approved programs by the NYS Department of Education. In addition, the Teacher Certification concentration is accredited by NCATE and the Athletic Training concentration is accredited by CAATE. The coaching minor is available to all students at The College at Brockport. This concentration enables students to meet and exceed the minimal requirements to become certified to coach a sport in New York public schools. The concentration contains both traditional classroom experiences and a culminating internship experience. The regulations of the Commissioner of Education of the New York State Department of Education require individuals who coach an interscholastic athletic team to complete an approved program for coaches prior to or within the first three years of their employment. The College at Brockport's coaching minor fulfills this requirement and also provides greater depth in preparation for prospective coaches in schools, sports clubs, community programs, colleges, or other athletic organizations
The coaching minor takes four (4) semesters to complete so students should declare a minor in coaching by the start of their junior year and begin taking specific required/elective courses no later than the first semester of their junior year, if not earlier.
