NYS Teacher Certification Examinations: Contract

As a result of new State regulations governing teacher education, all Brockport students must pass the Liberal Arts and Science Test (LAST), the Assessment of Teaching Skills-Written (ATS-W), and the Content Specialty Test-Physical Education (CST-PE) portions of the New York State Teacher Certification Examinations (NYSTCE) prior to gaining teacher certification.

The faculty strongly encourages all Physical Education Teacher Certification students to make arrangements to take and pass these exams prior to student teaching. The faculty believes that passing the exams is enhanced by taking them at a time when much of the material has been recently covered as part of the student's formal education.

Furthermore, students who have already passed the exams will be in a position to accept any teaching offers that might be made following student teaching. The faculty recommends that the LAST be taken following the sophomore year and that the ATS-W and the CST-PE be taken during the semester in which the student is enrolled in his/her final "methods" class (or classes) (i.e., the semester before student teaching).

Please sign below to acknowledge the NYSTCE requirements for gaining teacher certification in New York State as well as the faculty recommendations for taking and passing these exams prior to student teaching.
