The Department of Kinesiology, Sport Studies and Physical Education
NYS Teacher Certification Examinations:
Contract

As a result of State regulations governing teacher education, all Brockport physical education teacher education students must pass four certification tests: (a) the Academic Literacy Skills Test; (b) the Educating All Students Test; (c) the Content Specialty Test- Physical Education and (d) the edTPA (Teacher Performance Assessment) prior to gaining teacher certification.

The faculty strongly encourages all Physical Education Teacher Certification students to make arrangements to take and pass the Academic Literacy Skills Test, the Educating All Students Test and the Content Specialty Test- Physical Education prior to student teaching. The edTPA will be completed concurrently with student teaching. The faculty believes that your opportunity to pass the exams is enhanced by taking them at a time when much of the material has been recently covered as part of the student's formal education.

Furthermore, students who have already passed the exams will be in a position to accept any teaching offers that might be made following student teaching. The faculty recommends that the Academic Literacy Skills Test be taken during the first semester “methods block,” the Educating All Students Test be taken in the third semester “methods block,” the Content Specialty Test- Physical Education be taken prior to student teaching and the edTPA be completed as part of student teaching.

It is the student’s responsibility to know when each test is being offered and how much it costs. Information regarding the tests can be found at www.nystce.nesinc.com.

Please sign below to acknowledge that you are aware of the NYSTCE requirements for gaining teacher certification in New York State as well as the faculty recommendations for taking and passing these exams prior to student teaching.
