PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION COUNCIL (PEC)

The Professional Education Council (PEC) is the standing committee that shall serve as the central governing body of the Unit. All other standing and ad hoc committees of the Unit shall make recommendations to the PEC, which, in turn, shall make recommendations to the Head of the Unit.The primary function of the PEC is to advise the Head of the Unit on all matters related to professional education on the Brockport campus. The Head of the Unit serves as chairperson of the PEC.

Other functions of the PEC shall be as follows:

  • coordinate the governance work of the Unit
  • coordinate the work of standing committees
  • disseminate information relative to accreditation to home departments
  • disseminate information relative to state and national initiatives teacher certification to home departments
  • review home department personnel criteria to assure consistency with accreditation requirements and the College's existing set of personnel processes
  • identify areas of concern within the Unit and develop plans for remediation
  • oversee the assessment and evaluation of all programs within the Unit, including assessment of applicant qualifications, candidate and graduate performance, and Unit operations
  • communicate the accomplishments and needs of the Unit to the Vice President for Academic Affairs through the Head of the Unit
  • establish and consult with an Advisory Board relative to the goals of the Unit and procedures for attaining those goals.

The voting members of the PEC shall include the following persons:

  • Dean (or designee) of the School of Arts and Performance
  • Associate Dean of the School of Professions
  • The chair or coordinator of professional education from each of the home departments
  • Director of Field Experience and Certification
  • Coordinator for Certification and Graduate Education Advisement
  • Unit Assessment Coordinator
  • NCATE Coordinator
  • Dean of the School of Professions (the Head of the Unit)
  • Dean (or designee) of the School of Letters and Sciences
  • Dean (or designee) of Graduate Education and Special Sessions
