The Professional Education Unit at The College of Brockport is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The Unit is governed by the Professional Education Council (PEC) and linked to the professional community through the Unit Advisory Board. The Unit Teacher Effectiveness and Assessment committees are the two standing committees of the PEC.


The College at Brockport has undergraduate and graduate programs that lead to Initial New York State (NYS)(Learn about NYS Certification). Each initial program provides the opportunity for candidates to develop and demonstrate the competencies of an initially certified teacher as identified by the Professional Education Unit’s (PEU) faculty.
The Initial Teacher Preparation programs are found in four departments on campus. All programs have been awarded the highest rating of ‘National Recognition’ by their disciplines’ SPA.
