Jon P. Getz is a trial and appellate lawyer with extensive experience in both civil and criminal cases in the Federal and State Courts. Mr. Getz has successfully represented private citizens, small businesses, members of law enforcement, firefighters and attorneys in complex Federal, State, criminal and civil litigation. In civil practice, he has tried numerous cases for both plaintiffs and defendants involving contract disputes, personal injury, business torts, and New York State Civil Service matters. Mr. Getz has also represented firefighters and police officers who have been injured in the performance of their duty and duty disability related cases.
Mr. Getz is a frequent speaker at various continuing legal education seminars, and is an adjunct faculty member at SUNY Brockport where he teaches Moot Court, Law & Social Problems.
Mr. Getz has served on the Monroe County Bar Association’s Board of Trustees and is the past Chair of the Criminal Justice Section, as well as the Solo & Small Firm Practice Section. He is currently Chair of the Memorial Committee of the Monroe County Bar Association. Mr. Getz currently serves as the New York State Bar Association’s Criminal Justice Section liaison for the Seventh Judicial District covering eight counties. He has appeared on several national television shows, including ABC, 20/20, CNN and CBS This Morning.
Mr. Getz received the New York State Bar Association’s Most Outstanding Young Lawyer award in 1995, and the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers Gideon award in 1999.
Mr. Getz is a graduate of the University of Rochester with honors in history and political science, and received his Juris Doctorate from the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1992.
Mr. Getz is admitted to practice in New York, California, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Western District of New York and the United States District Court for the Central District of California.
