International Studies

The International Studies Program courses provide students with a strong exposure to the international dimensions of key economic, environmental, political and social forces in today's world. This international focus for the traditional disciplines—coupled with the growing number of internationally-oriented businesses and organizations across the world—leads toward a wide choice of career opportunities. 

SUNY Brockport also offers interdisciplinary programs in International Business, Asian Studies, Canadian Studies and Latin-American Studies, as well as programs overseas that can be integrated into the international studies major. See the chairperson for further information.

Major in International Studies

The international studies major consists of 3 components:
  1. 15 credits of introductory course work (foundational courses).
  2. 6 credits of intermediate level courses.
  3. 15 credits of upper-division course work in either the "thematic" or "functional" tracks.

  2. Former + Current Communist Societies
  3. Advanced Industrial Societies
  4. Multi-regional Track
Functional Tracks
  1. International Environmental Issues
  2. International Business Track

Students are required to demonstrate an intermediate level mastery of any foreign language offered at SUNY College at Brockport. Students may either successfully complete an appropriate qualifying exam or complete the language through the 212 level.

Students are expected to study abroad and participate in an international internship while fulfilling their INS major.

Major in International Studies

Students choosing to minor in International Studies must complete 18 credits of course work, including a minimum of 6 credits at the upper division level. Four courses must be selected from the following list.
