Preferred Sources
NYS has accorded the following entities preferred source status in order to advance special social and economic goals:
- Department of Correction Services (CORCRAFT)
- NYS Industries for the Blind
- NYS Office of Mental Health
- NYS Industries for the Disabled
- Department of Veterans Affairs
The purchase of commodities and/or services from preferred sources are exempt from statutory competitive procurement requirements. All State agencies are required to purchase approved products and services that meet form, function and utility requirements in the following prioritized order:
- Department of Correctional Services' Correctional Industries Program
- Approved, charitable, non-profit making agencies for the blind.
- Equal priority to approved, charitable, non-profit making agencies for the severely disabled, qualified special employment programs for mentally ill persons and qualified veterans' workshops.
