It took Chrissy Scaffidi approximately 48 hours to land her dream job. On Saturday afternoon, she was accepting her diploma from The College at Brockport, State University of New York. She joined the world champion Green Bay Packers by Monday morning.
“I thought my dad was going to have a heart attack when I told him,” Scaffidi says. “He’s a die-hard Packers fan.”
Scaffidi, who earned a BS in sport management and a BA in communication from Brockport, was hired as a marketing assistant. She is part of a team that oversees the team’s training camp operations and helps supervise in-game promotions at historic Lambeau Field.
Scaffidi says her Brockport class work, professors, and extracurricular activities laid the foundation for her professional success.
“Brockport allowed me to experience the field of sport management while I was still an undergrad by encouraging internships and providing practicums and excellent instruction,” she says. “As a member of the gymnastics team and student athlete advisory committee, I was able to thrive as a leader and build confidence. All of those things, combined, helped me to become the young professional I am today.”
An internship Scaffidi completed early in her Brockport career created the networking opportunities that led to her job with the Packers. Scaffidi, who was raised in Milwaukee, interned with a Green Bay-based public relations agency. Part of her responsibilities included running some events in the Lambeau Field atrium.
“I made a few contacts that summer and I’ve been networking with them for two years—one of them is the vice president of strategic planning for the Packers,” Scaffidi says. “She’s been such a good mentor.”
The Packers weren’t the only major athletic organization seeking Scaffidi’s services. She had offers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Northwestern University, as well. Scaffidi, however, is glad she held out for the offer from Green Bay.
“This,” she says, “is my dream job.”
