Erika Orman comments on her experience as a first-year student at The College at Brockport.

Q: Tell me about your Brockport experience during your first-year of college.

A: As a first-year student, I had to transition to college life. At Brockport, I was able to meet a lot of people in my residence hall and through Delta College. Going to football and hockey games, participating in Homecoming Weekend, and getting to know my classmates has given me a sense of belonging.

Q: Tell me about a faculty or staff member who have has a significant impact on you.

A: My professors have done so much to make me feel comfortable and welcome at Brockport. Sandra Holinbaugh, one of my Delta College professors, is like an aunt away from home. I can go to her with any question or problem, academic or not.

Q: What co-curricular activities do you participate in?

A: I'm in Delta College, president of the Delta College Student Association, Overnight Host, Resident Assistant in Dobson Hall, and am involved in intramural volleyball.

Q: How have your experiences outside the classroom impacted you?

A: My experiences outside the classroom have been the most memorable. Some that come to mind are going to football and hockey games and riding in my residence hall's homecoming float (and winning the float contest!). These are the things that help you bond with other people and that give you a sense of belonging to the Brockport community.

Q: What are your future plans/goals?

A: I'm not exactly sure what I want to do, but I'm contemplating a career as an ambassador to another country. I also may work for a private company that works internationally or work for a nonprofit organization.

Q: What do you think makes a Brockport education special?

A: A Brockport education is special, because you have so many opportunities — academic and non-academic — at your fingertips. But, it's still a small campus. It's just a matter of taking advantage of those opportunities.
