Mission Statement

Mission Element 1:
Educate individuals who are preparing or upgrading their skills for careers in public service organizations (such as government, nonprofit, health care and public safety).

Goals:
In preparing individuals or upgrading their skills for careers in public service, we seek to:
§ Combine both the conceptual and practical application of administrative knowledge and skills in the classroom and through internships.
§ Develop an understanding of ethical behavior.
§ Help our students develop skills which enable them to respond to organizational and environmental changes.
§ Encourage diversity among those who participate in our educational program.
§ Develop an awareness of managing in a diverse environment.
§ Expand educational access with Internet offerings.

Mission Element 2:
Participate in community and professional service which benefits public service organizations and their administration.

Goal:
In our community and professional service, we seek to encourage professional activities of students, alums and faculty in public service organizations.

Mission Element 3:
Engage in applied research which addresses key issues and problems in both our profession and our community.

Goals:
In applied research, we seek to:
§ Enhance student learning through problem solving and consultative experiences in practical situations.
§ Promote student involvement in research activities to enhance their knowledge and skills.
§ Instruct students in the professional standards relevant to applied research.
