Marlene Babcock '87/'05 recently accepted the position of coordinator of child support enforcement at the Orleans County Department of Social Services. Brenda Bartock '95 was awarded the Visiting Nurse Association of America's (VNAA) "Program Manager of the Year" award at their annual meeting and awards banquet last spring. Bartock is currently employed as manager of Intake and Home Care Coordination at Visiting Nurse Service of Rochester and Monroe Co., Inc. Michael Bierley '87 is president and CEO of Touchstone Living, LLC. Bierley is also a member of our Public Administration Advisory Board. Anneke Chodan '06 was awarded a New York State Public Management Internship (PMI). The PMI is a highly competitive program offering a unique and challenging career opportunity with excellent compensation and benefits. Most importantly, the PMI offers an opportunity to aspire to a leadership position in New York State government. Ed Doherty '81 is serving as vice president for community programs at the Rochester Area Community Foundation. Doherty is also a member of the Public Administration Advisory Board. Tracey Dreisbach '95/'02 was appointed executive director of the Rochester Rotary Club in May 2006. Frank F. Ferrigno '86/'88 is national representative for the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), National Veterans Affairs Council, Kerrville, TX, and president of AFGE Local 2281, South Texas Veterans Healthcare System in Kerrville, TX. Brian Gatesman '94/'96 has accepted a human resources manager position with InfiMed, Inc. in Liverpool, NY. InfiMed is a developer of digital medical acquisition, image processing, and sensor solutions. These systems are used in hospital Cath Labs, X-ray departments, imaging centers, and trauma centers worldwide. Kay W. James '98, assistant city manager of the City of Canandaigua, has been appointed to the Executive Board of the International City/County Management Association (ICMA). ICMA is the professional and educational organization for chief appointed managers, administrators, and assistants in cities, towns, counties, and regional entities throughout the world. ICMA's mission is to create excellence in local governance by developing and fostering professional local government management worldwide. James was officially installed as a Northeast regional vice president in September at the ICMA annual conference in San Antonio, TX. December 2006 graduate Christine Ann Miller was recently promoted to Vice President of Clinical Care Services/Chief Nursing Officer at Lakeside Health System of Brockport, NY. Karen Ogden '04 is director of development at The Marrow Foundation in Washington, DC. Ogden is directly responsible for implementing direct mail and online giving programs with an emphasis on individual giving. She will also be working to strengthen relationships with corporations and foundations in support of the foundation's partner, the National Marrow Donor program, for financial support and education while helping to increase the diversity of the national registry of unrelated blood stem cell and marrow donors. John Schrenker '89/'97 was appointed chief information officer of Lakeside Health System in May 2006. Schrenker joined the Lakeside organization as Director of Information Systems. He has worked at Lakeside since June of 2003. Lori Van Auken '05 was awarded SUNY Brockport’s Outstanding Adult Student Award at the spring 2006 awards ceremony. Van Auken is director of community partnerships at the Children’s Institute in Rochester. The Children’s Institute is perhaps the premier organization engaged in research, evaluation and advocacy in developing and promoting effective prevention and early intervention programs, materials and best practices for children, families, schools and communities. Previously, she served as a Program Officer at the Rochester Area Community Foundation. Lori is engaged in many efforts on behalf of children. Brian Venton '94/'04 is currently vice president for Investments at M & T Bank Upstate, NY.
The Public Administration Advisory Board welcomed six new members this fall: John Cassin '06 operations manager, City of Rochester Emergency Communications Department; Belinda Colon '05 counselor, Rochester Police Department Victim's Assistance Unit; Cynthia Elliott '95, assistant to the executive director at Baden Street Settlement and commissioner, Board of Education, Rochester City School District; Kevin Finnerty '05 manager, Monroe County Department of Purchasing and Central Services; Tracy Logel '80 supervisor, Town of Chili; and James Winston '99 assistant to president, Workforce Development, Monroe Community College. The purpose of the Public Administration Advisory board is to ensure a relationship between the Department of Public Administration and the persons in the public, non-profit, business, professional, and academic world it serves. The board provides input to the department's ongoing strategic planning process and reviews the program of the Department of Public Administration to highlight the strengths and recommends the ways and means that the department can improve. |

Ed Downey, had an article published in the July 2006 Encyclopedia of Digital Government titled "A Conceptual Framework for Considering the Value of E-Government." Jim Fatula and Chris Price, interim director, Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching ( CELT), will be present at the 26h Annual Lilly Conference on College Teaching at Miami University in Oxford, OH. Their presentation is titled, “Are Online Discussions in Blended Courses Dependent on Course Context?” Fatula was also guest expert on WXXI-AM radio, 1370 Connection with Bob Smith July 25, speaking on the topic “Health Care Report Cards: Experiments in Massachusetts and San Francisco to Provide Universal Coverage.” Fatula also had a column published in The Democrat and Chronicle’s August 30 edition “Speaking Out” section titled “Government is not up to the task of Medicare Reform.” Gregory Saxton published “Structure, Politics and Action: An Integrated Model of Nationalist Protest and Rebellion” (with Michelle Benson) in the publication Nationalism and Ethnic Politics (2006). He has had the article, “The Strategic Use of Information Technology by Nonprofit Organizations: Increasing Capacity and Untapped Potential” (with Darrene Hackler), accepted for publication by the Public Administration Review. Saxton presented “Computer-Mediated Communications and the Expansion of Participatory Practices in the Public and Nonprofit Sectors” August 31-September 3 at the Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association, Philadelphia, PA. Chao Guo (Arizona State University) and Saxton presented “Accountability-Building Tool for Non-profit Organizations” in August at the 2006 Academy of Management Annual Meeting, Atlanta, GA, and, as co-principal authors, submitted a grant proposal to the Nonprofit Sector Research Fund of The Aspen Institute. Saxton also was voted in as council member of the Public Administration sections of the American Political Science Association (APSA) and submitted the grant proposal, “Donor Services, Organizational Transparency and Asset Development: Community Foundations in Cyberspace.” |
