· Ilan Alon, business administration and economics, and Dianne Welsh were editors of the newly published 2001 International Franchising in Emerging Markets: China, India and Other Asian Countries, from Washington DC's CCH Publishing. The book received a favorable review by Laura Fenwick in the International Franchising Association's (IFA) official magazine, Franchising World, (May/June, 2001,

p. 54-56).

· Gary Briggs, William Dresnack, and Ralph Trecartin, business administration and economics, saw their article "Partial Disclosure Under Financial Accounting Standard No. 115" published in the forthcoming in the Proceedings of the 2001 International Business & Economics Research Conference, held in Reno, NV, on Oct. 8-12.

· Rick Kincaid, career services, recently returned from the National Student Employment Association meeting where he received the Margene Orzalli Memorial Award for the second time. (The first time was 1989.) The award is presented to someone who "has demonstrated extraordinary effort and energy. . . , and has provided leadership and

vision through numerous activities, including committee work, conferences and programs, leadership positions, or work on special projects." Kincaid is now entering the second year of a two year term on the National Student Employment Association Executive Board and is chair of the Research Committee. He is currently working on a long-term analysis of student employment trends with Tom Mortenson, publisher of the Postsecondary Opportunity Newsletter.

· Jeff Magers, criminal justice, conducted two workshops titled "Ethical Practice for Police Leaders: Perceptions and Influence" for the Center for Law Enforcement Ethics at the recent 10th annual International Ethics Conference in Dallas, TX.

· Janine Santiago, foreign languages and literatures, is chairing a panel and doing a presentation at the American Studies Association conference to be held in Washington, D.C., Nov. 8 - 11. The panel is titled "Multiple Voices and Spaces of American Studies: Public Practitioners."

· John Spitzer and Sandeep Singh, business administration and economics, have

published "The Fallacy of Cookie Cutter Asset Allocation: Some Evidence from State Sponsored Education Savings Programs," in Vol. 10, No. 1 of Financial Services Review.

· Bill Stier, physical education and sport, has been keeping busy. He wrote a chapter called "The Development of Sport Management," which recently appeared in The Business of Sport Perspectives (2001), published by the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education in Berlin, Germany. Stier and Robert Schneider, also physical education and sport, authored an article, "Essential Skills, Competencies and Knowledge Expected of Athletic Directors By Their Principals" in the International Sport Journal (7[5], 18-30). And Stier's article "It's in the Cards" appeared in American Cheerleader (7[5], 101-102, 104, 1045, 107.)

· Edward Van Duzer, business administration and economics, was honored in mid-Oct. by United University Professions (UUP) with the Nina Mitchell Award for Distinguished Service. Established in honor of veteran unionist Nina Mitchell (1926-1988) of the Brooklyn Health Sciences Center, the award commends

UUPers who have served the union with distinction in a variety of chapter and statewide capacities. Van Duzer's long-time service to the UUP's Brockport chapter and the statewide organization cover three decades. He was the local chapter president for 16 years and provided invaluable continuity on campus with his involvement in labor-management matters under three College presidents: Albert Brown, John Van de Wetering and Paul Yu. A UUP delegate since 1988, Van Duzer is known as a principled, conscientious union representative.

· Jerry Weaver and Jeff Strieter, business administration and economics had their article "NAFTA and Its Influence on Business in the Greater Rochester, NY, Area," published in the Proceedings of the European Marketing Academy Conference, held in Bergen, Norway in May. They also presented the same paper at the Applied Business Research Conference Program and Proceedings in Mar. And Weaver and Strieter presented "A Content Analysis of Women's Roles as Portrayed by Advertisement in Select Business Magazines" at the Applied Business Research Conference Program and Proceedings, also in Mar.
