The Office of Alumni Relations has learned that two SUNY Brockport alumni were victims of the Sept. 11 attack on New York City.
Reported missing and presumed dead at the World Trade Center attack site is Peter T. Milano '83. While at Brockport he earned a BS in Psychology and minored in history. It is not known what company he worked for.
Patrick Waters '78 a business administration major who was a Fire Department captain in New York, was reported killed in the immediate aftermath of the attacks. Waters had been a rugby player at SUNY Brockport. Susan Parrino, alumni relations, reports that his rugby teammates have already donated some $1,000 to Waters' memorial fund.
Rodney L. Parshall, Jr., an assistant professor emeritus in the Department of English passed away on Oct. 16 at the age of 69. He is survived by his wife Jean, three children, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a brother and sister, and many other family members. A Brockport resident, Parshall served the College from 1966-1995.
"Long before it became 'in,' Rod was student-centered and cared about students right up to the days before his death, when he offered to read a student's papers to satisfy an "incomplete" contract. We all celebrate him as a teacher," said Earl Ingersoll, English.
As Bud Meade, human resources emeritus, said in a recent e-mail to many members of the College community, "My memories of him are that he was passionate about the things he believed in, and mostly sensitive to the views of others. I knew him best from bumping into him at various eateries in and around Brockport where we occasionally had a drink together and engaged in discourse about the health of SUNY Brockport one of his passions that reflected his love of the College and its students."
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his name to the American Heart Association, Kidney Foundation, or American Diabetes Association. Condolences can be sent to Jean Parshall, 171 Thackery Road, Rochester, NY 14610.
