Cheerleading is a club sport, which is under the direction of Recreational Services. The club, like all other clubs, is a student-run organization. At the end of each spring semester, the club elects two captains for the following year, who also serve as club president and vice-president. Additionally, the captains also serve as a coach.
Each fall, tryouts are held during the first and second weeks of classes. Although individuals may not be cut from any club, clubs are allowed to maintain an A and B team, which is the case with cheerleading. Typically, tryouts consist of skills such as partner stunting, jumps, cheer, a chant and tumbling. Tryouts usually last three days, with the first two days consisting of learning and practicing, and the third day consisting of evaluation. Individuals are evaluated and will receive a score. The A team will consist of the two captains, and the individuals receiving the top 18 scores. All other individuals have the option to participate with the B team. |
