Noah Wilson, Resident Director of Morgan Hall

Morgan Hall RD Office 585-395-2686 nwilson@brockport.edu

Undergraduate Degree:

BS in English Literature / Education, The College at Brockport

Graduate Degree:

MA English, The College at Brockport (in progress)

Hometown: Rochester, New York

Number of Years Working at Brockport: 1 year as a RA, 1 year as a professional

What do you love about Brockport?

It’s a small community without being too small – Brockport is 20 minutes away from everything. There were so many opportunities for me to try new things in several diverse areas (English, Technology, and Residential Life). Every year I can clearly see how much I have grown from the year before.

What's the best part of your job?

My original game plan was to teach inner city high school students. After serving as an RA for a year, I realized that I enjoyed working with college students just as much. Being an RD allows me to continue both of these pursuits.

What do you do for fun?

  • Watch Movies (especially independent films)
  • Running (it can be relaxing)
  • Meeting new people
  • Hanging out with friends
  • Mini-Golf
  • Playing videogames
  • Reading (doesn’t happen as often as I’d like)

Any advice for first year students?

Step out of your comfort zone; the sooner the better (everyone wants a chance to try new things….now is that time). Meeting new people will increase your social network, and it never hurts to know someone who knows more about something than you do (this includes professors; I cannot stress how influential they can be).

Most memorable program at Brockport :

I presented at the RA Conference my first and only year as a Resident Assistant with a friend of mine. Our goal was to teach people about passive programming and how to best utilize it create a sense of community in Residence Halls….I think people were more interested in the fact that we were creeping them out as mimes that were in synch with creepy music.

Favorite Quote:

"Up until the mid twentieth century the mountain gorilla was considered a myth. Oddly enough, a legend not unlike bigfoot or the loch ness monster. The chance of actually seeing/experiencing this elusive shadow was as likely as finding ones soulmate. Rare. Precious. Even once discovered they seemed unapproachable. The only way to get close to this magnificent creature was to become empathetic. Abandon all pretense and preconceptions. To bare an open throat. To collapse into the arms of vulnerability. All but extinct, these beings/moments are threatened by the black hearted. The cold and oblivious. The empty eyed profit seekers that overlook these rare precious moments."
