Why did you choose Residential Life?

When I was a college freshman, I started as a theatre major.  I had plenty of friends, but when I changed my major to English, I didn’t really know anyone anymore, and the English department was mostly made up of Education majors, so I didn’t fit in.  I applied to be an RA, and really liked the connections I made.  As a student, you can meet people in clubs or in classes, but the RA staff was the most diverse group of students at Niagara, and we were all motivated to help other students.  I loved being part of a group that could reach so many lives.  I am the type of person who likes to excel at whatever I do, so I moved into Assistant Hall Director quickly, and then when it came time to graduate, I realized that I didn't want to do anything with English.  Student Life, specifically ResLife became my home.

What's the best part of your job?

Building relationships with students, and watching them grow.  It's always nice to see students succeed, especially when you feel like you had a part in it.

What do you do for fun?

Rollerblade, sing, cook, eat, and play with my cat, Kaila.

Any advice for students?

First year students: Relax!  Coming to a new environment and starting out on your own is a scary thing, but there are tons of people working at Brockport who want to help you...including me!  We've all been where you are and we have a wealth of resources to get you through the tough times.  And don't be afraid to take risks - this is a pretty safe place for you to figure out who you are.  Just don't let anyone pressure you into something you don't want to do.
