Spring 2007
The Faculty In Residence is a SUNY Brockport faculty member who lives in an apartment in a residence hall learning community. The Faculty In Residence works closely and cooperatively as part of the Residential Life/Learning Communities team in developing a sense of community, involving other faculty in residence life, and assisting in meeting the academic and community needs of residents. The Faculty In Residence interacts on a positive basis with students and staff in a college residence setting, and is committed to the development of an educational community and environment designed to enhance student success.
The Faculty In Residence Program allows FIRs to get to know residents and is imperative in developing relationships that foster an intellectual environment. The Faculty In Residence, in cooperation with Residential Life/Learning Communities staff and the Residence Council initiates, sponsors, and supports a wide range of formal and informal educational programs in the residence hall, including discussions, lectures, symposia, and cultural events. The Faculty In Residence also coordinates the involvement of other faculty in both formal and informal activities in the learning community.
Impact FIRs have on residence halls:
"Norma is the nices, warmest, kindest, and most helpful person with whom I have the pleasure to share some of the most important year of my life. She really did make SUNY Brockport a home away from home for me." - Ines Nam, Senior, McLean Hall

"I loving having a faculty member right as a resource and a source of engergy in the building. Dr. B loves working with students and programming to their needs. His enthusiasm is wonderful and he has been such an asset to the student and to myself." - Becca Gates, Mortimer Hall RD |
