Mission & Goals

MISSION

The Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities supports the College at Brockport's mission by developing safe, inclusive and vibrant communities that value academic excellence and overall student development. Through collaboration and unique relationships with students, our staff provides an appropriate balance of challenge and support, community development and a purposeful residential curriculum with holistic student education at its core.

 

UNIT OVERVIEW

The Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities supports the College at Brockport's mission by developing safe, inclusive and vibrant communities that value academic excellence and overall student development. Through collaboration and unique relationships with students, our staff provides an appropriate balance of challenge and support, community development and a purposeful residential curriculum with holistic student education at its core.

 

2010-2011 GOALS

Academic Quality & Engagement

  • Offer a variety of Living Learning Community options that meet the developmental needs of residential students and enhance their academic success.
  • Develop/maintain positive relationships with various College departments, students, faculty and staff to ensure that our approach is comprehensive, intentional and effective.


Co-curricular Programming & Support Services

  • Through a purposeful residential curriculum, provide our students with educational programming and community activities to ensure the holistic development of our students.
  • Prepare students to be engaged members of their communities by teaching the importance of integrity and accountability.
  • Create inclusive and interactive communities that foster citizenship, global awareness and social justice.
  • Continually assess student needs on various levels and develop creative, deliberate ways to meet those needs.


A Culture of Philanthropy & Alumni Connectedness

  • Enhance the overall college experience of our students, enabling them to persist to graduation while creating a lifelong connection to the College at Brockport.


Learning Environment & Quality of Place

  • Integrate current technology initiatives to support student success.
  • Develop/maintain positive relationships with various College departments, students, faculty and staff to ensure that our approach is comprehensive, intentional and effective.

 

2011-2012 STRATEGIC GOALS

Academic Quality & Engagement

  • Offer additional variety of Living Learning Community options that meet the developmental needs of residential students and enhance their academic success. For 2011-12 two more have been added (Creative Artists and Future Health Professionals) with a change to Health & Fitness (Recreation & Fitness). 
  • Develop/maintain positive relationships with various College departments, students, faculty and staff to ensure that our approach is comprehensive, intentional and effective.
  • Encourage and support student leadership development through formal and informal opportunities within the residence halls and campus community, including but not limited to Resident Assistants, Night Desk Attendants and Residence Councils.


Co-curricular Programming & Support Services

  • Through a purposeful residential curriculum, provide our students with educational programming and community activities to ensure the holistic development of our students. More specifically, connect our students with engagement opportunities on and off campus and focusing on transfer and second year experience. Also, contribute as a major player in the efforts to create a culture of engagement and involvement on our campus.
  • Prepare students to be engaged members of their communities by teaching the importance of integrity and accountability, more specifically by enhancing the student conduct system to contribute to student learning and development. Continue to grow community service as a sanction for student conduct violations
  • Create inclusive and interactive communities that foster citizenship, global awareness and social justice. More specifically, enhance Critical Conversations program series by including more campus departments and faculty and enhancing building educational initiatives to be intentional and seamless.
  • Continually assess student needs on various levels and develop creative, deliberate ways to meet those needs.

  • Develop/maintain positive relationships with various College departments, students, faculty and staff to ensure that our approach is comprehensive, intentional and effective.
  • Create and execute a comprehensive plan for maintenance and capital improvements of the residence halls.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the housing system renovation and construction projects.
