The Office of Residential Life / Learning Communities

 

Mission Statement

As an integral part of the educational program of The College at Brockport, the mission of the Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities is to provide living communities that enhance student learning and personal and social development.  Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities staff, through their training, experience, and unique relationships with students have responsibilities to significantly contribute to the College's understanding of students' needs and concerns and to assist in a comprehensive approach to their learning and development.  All programs and services are evaluated and modified as needed.

 
The goals of the Office of Residential Life/Learning Communities are to use all available resources to ensure that students are:

1.    provided with safe, comfortable, and clean living environments

2.    served by a competent staff

3.    provided with opportunities for learning, personal growth, social development, and life skills

4.    retained (thus maximizing residence hall system utilization) through effective programs and activities

5.    communicated with effectively

6.    provided with services to enhance their quality of life

7.    exposed to the latest available technology to enhance service delivery

 

Resident Assistant Leadership Development Program

The overall goal of the Resident Assistant Leadership Development Program is to provide our student leaders/staff with a foundation of knowledge and experience to create a positive residential experience for our on-campus students.  Specific objectives include:

a.     To promote a culture that fosters learning in/out of the classroom.
b.     To help prepare our staff to be student leaders whose knowledge, experience, and energy are directed toward opportunities that benefit the entire community.
c.      To create a network in the campus community that encourages positive communication, collaboration, and facilitates the mediation of differences.
d.     To increase awareness among the entire campus community of the importance and quality of the RA position.
e.      To promote a culture that breeds accountability/responsibility for the student body.
